Ceramic Fiber Blanket: Superior High-Temperature Insulation with Low Thermal Mas

2026-02-05 JOINTEFLON

Ceramic Fiber Blanket is a high-performance, lightweight insulation product spun from high-purity alumina-silicate (and optionally zirconia) ceramic fibers. Through needling technology the fibers are interlocked into a uniform, resilient mat that combines extremely low thermal conductivity with excellent thermal-shock resistance, making the blanket the first-choice insulation for furnaces, kilns, boilers, reformers, and high-temperature process equipment across metallurgy, petrochemical, power generation, and ceramic industries.

Ceramic Fiber Blanket: Superior High-Temperature Insulation with Low Thermal Mass

One of the key advantages of Ceramic Fiber Blanket is its outstanding temperature capability. Standard grades withstand continuous use up to 1,260 °C, high-purity grades to 1,400 °C, and zirconia-stabilized grades to 1,600 °C, without shrinking, spalling, or losing insulating efficiency. This broad range allows a single insulation layer to replace multiple layers of conventional refractory, reducing shell temperature and heat loss.

The blanket’s low density (64–160 kg/m³) and low thermal conductivity (≈ 0.08 W/m·K at 600 °C) minimize heat storage and furnace start-up energy, delivering immediate fuel savings and faster temperature cycling. The flexible, needled structure also absorbs thermal expansion and vibration, preventing refractory cracking and extending lining life in cycling furnaces and rotary kilns.

Another advantage is its rapid, low-mass installation. The blanket is simply cut with a knife or scissors, wrapped or layered, and anchored with stainless steel clips or studs—no curing or dry-out time is required, eliminating costly furnace downtime. It can be supplied in 6–50 mm thicknesses and 300–1,220 mm widths, with optional water-repellent or foil-facing for outdoor or waterproof applications.

Ceramic Fiber Blanket is free of asbestos, crystalline silica, and organic binders, meeting EU, REACH, and OSHA health standards. Overall it delivers outstanding high-temperature insulation, energy savings, and installation versatility, making it a reliable, cost-effective solution for lining, wrapping, and repairing thermal equipment in the most demanding industrial environments.
