Virgin Polyoxymethylene Resin
POM Sheet is a high-performance engineering plastic manufactured from virgin polyoxymethylene (POM) resin that is extruded or compression-molded into rigid, dimensionally stable sheets. This highly crystalline molecular structure delivers metal-like mechanical strength, exceptional dimensional stability and inherent low-friction properties, making POM Sheet the material of choice for the most demanding structural, wear-resistant and precision-motion applications across automotive, electronics, industrial machinery, medical devices and food-processing industries.
One of the key advantages of POM Sheets is their outstanding mechanical rigidity. They maintain tensile strength of 60-70 MPa, flexural modulus exceeding 2500 MPa and surface hardness comparable to aluminum—far surpassing the structural capabilities of PTFE, polyethylene or nylon sheets. Glass-fiber reinforced grades achieve up to 9000 MPa flexural modulus, ideal for high-load gears, structural brackets, conveyor slats and precision jigs that would otherwise require metal fabrication.
The highly ordered crystalline structure provides exceptional dimensional stability with low moisture absorption (<0.25%) and minimal thermal expansion, ensuring tight tolerances (±0.05 mm) in precision-machined components across humid or thermally cycling environments. This eliminates gear backlash, bearing seizure and fitment drift that plague less stable polymers, reducing assembly rejection rates and warranty claims in automotive fuel systems and medical device housings.
POM Sheets exhibit superior wear resistance and self-lubricating properties, with coefficient of friction 0.1-0.3 against steel and excellent abrasion resistance under PV (pressure-velocity) conditions. The material withstands repetitive sliding, rolling and impact stresses without lubrication, delivering long-life performance in bearing races, cam followers, impellers and sliding guides. This reduces maintenance downtime in packaging machinery, textile looms and automated assembly equipment.
Another advantage is exceptional machinability and versatility. POM Sheets can be CNC-milled, turned, drilled and tapped to achieve surface finishes down to Ra ≤ 0.8 µm and intricate geometries impossible with cast metals. The material also supports thermoforming, laser-cutting, welding and adhesive bonding (using specialized cyanoacrylate or epoxy systems), enabling rapid prototype iteration and cost-effective production without hard-tooling investments. Standard gauges range from 1 mm to 100 mm in sheet dimensions up to 2000 × 1000 mm; anti-static, PTFE-filled and UV-stabilized grades are available for ESD protection, friction reduction and outdoor weathering resistance.
POM Sheets meet FDA 21 CFR 177.2480, EU 10/2011 and NSF/ANSI 51 standards for direct food contact and potable water applications. The non-porous, non-toxic surface resists bacterial adhesion and withstands repeated steam sterilization cycles, making it suitable for food processing equipment, dairy fittings and medical instrument handles.
Overall, POM Sheets deliver unmatched mechanical strength, dimensional precision and wear resistance in engineering plastic profiles, providing a reliable, lightweight metal-replacement solution for engineers facing high-load structural, precision-motion and abrasive-wear challenges in the most demanding industrial and life-science environments.
