Silicone Sheet: Premium High-Temperature Sealing & Insulation Material

2026-06-02 JOINTEFLON

Virgin Silicone Rubber

Silicone Sheet is a high-performance elastomeric material manufactured from virgin silicone rubber that is calendered and vulcanized into uniform, flexible sheets. Its unique molecular structure (Si-O backbone) delivers exceptional thermal stability, superior elastic recovery and universal chemical inertness, making Silicone Sheet the first-choice sealing, cushioning and insulation material in aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical and food-processing industries.

One of the key advantages of Silicone Sheet is its outstanding temperature resistance. The fully saturated siloxane backbone maintains full flexibility and sealing properties from -60 °C to +230 °C continuous (short peaks to +270 °C), without hardening, embrittling or melting—far exceeding the thermal limits of EPDM, neoprene or nitrile rubbers. Specialty post-cured grades extend continuous service to +300 °C, enabling reliable performance in turbocharger gaskets, oven door seals and PCB wave-solder pallets where other elastomers fail.

The inorganic Si-O structure provides excellent dielectric strength (≥20 kV/mm) and high volume resistivity (>10¹⁴ Ω·cm), making Silicone Sheet ideal for high-voltage connector pads, thermal insulation barriers, keyboard membranes and solar cell encapsulation. Flame-retardant formulations meet UL 94 V-0 and EN 45545 low-smoke toxicity requirements for rail transit and aviation interior applications where fire safety is critical.

Silicone Sheet exhibits superior elastic recovery and compression set resistance (<10% after 22h at 175 °C), ensuring tight, long-life seals with minimal bolt torque on uneven, warped or thermally cycling flanges. This elastic memory reduces maintenance downtime in pumps, heat exchangers, autoclaves and chemical reactors. Platinum-cured medical grades offer <1% extractables, meeting USP Class VI and FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 standards for pharmaceutical processing, bioreactor gaskets and beverage tubing seals.

Another advantage is exceptional environmental durability. Silicone Sheet is inherently inert to UV radiation, ozone attack, moisture and weathering, showing no surface cracking after 5,000 hours Q-UV-B exposure. It resists diluted acids, alkalis, polar solvents and glycol-based brake fluids, remaining flexible in Arctic oilfields or tropical rooftop installations. The low-friction, non-stick surface releases easily from press platens and prevents gaskets from bonding to metal flanges over extended service periods.

The material offers extensive customization versatility. Standard gauges range from 0.3 mm to 20 mm in sheet dimensions up to 1200 mm width; reinforced fabric-inserted, conductive, thermally conductive and FDA-compliant translucent grades are available for pressure resistance, EMI shielding, heat dissipation and visual flow inspection without tooling modifications. Silicone Sheet can be die-cut, water-jet cut or laser-cut into precision gaskets within minutes, eliminating mold costs and curing delays.

Overall, Silicone Sheet delivers unmatched thermal endurance, electrical safety and long-term elastic resilience in the widest temperature envelope, providing a reliable, high-purity solution for critical sealing, cushioning and insulation challenges in the most demanding high-temperature and life-science environments.
